After the Japanese Occupation, Singapore gained independence in 1965. The picture shows different races all in the same class, no longer split up according to their races. When we were still in the British's control, different races were split up to enroll into different schools, taught in their own mother tongues.

There was a change. When the British ruled us, different races were split into different schools and learnt using their own languages. The Japanese Occupation then happened from 1942 to 1945. Singapore then gained independence in 1965. If the British did not surrender to the Japanese, Singapore could have never gotten independence. After 1965, school life then slowly changed as all races now study in the same schools and classes, using English as the teaching language.

This changed when the Japanese started taking over Singapore and changed the currency used to banana money. Banana money was issued by the Japanese to replace the Straits dollar.

There was a big change in terms of the quality of the housing. Before the Japanese Occupation which involved bombings for example, the housings were steady and they looked comfortable. During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese then ruined the housing by the bombs. The bombs caused the walls of the housings to crack. The lives of the people have also gotten tougher as they have to repair their own housing.
